In the morning, take a shore excursion to Shibaozhai, a hill that juts out from the river bank with an impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze”. An alternate excursion can be made to Fengdu (subject to conditions, and surcharges apply), the new village built for families who moved as a result of the Yangtze’s rising waters from the Three Gorges Dam.
The next day, see the Three Gorges, one of nature’s most extraordinary sculptures. Qutang Gorge is the shortest and most dramatic. The Wu Gorge is known for its quiet beauty, forest-covered mountains, and cliffs so sheer that the sun barely penetrates the precipices.
