TERRACOTTA ARMY AND NEOLITHIC VILLAGE MUSEUM

The Terracotta Army is a collection of ancient statues dating back to the year 210 BCE when Qin Shi Huang ruled as China’s first emperor. Over 8,000 statues depict Qin Shi Huang’s personal army and were buried in his mausoleum where it was believed they would follow him to the afterlife. This incredible collection of intricately carved statues remains one of the greatest historical discoveries of the 20th century. Spend time taking in the magnificent artefacts then head to Nanpo to discover more ruins, this time from the ancient Yangshao community. Visit the Neolithic Village Museum to learn about Yangshao culture and see the tools and crafts that have been uncovered during excavations.

Experience the local cuisine with a traditional lunch then head to Xi’an to climb the ancient city wall for spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Time permitting, a final stop will be made at the Muslim Quarter to see the many street vendors, and try more local food.

Learn more about local history by visiting the Xi’an Museum, home to over 130,000 relics, many unearthed from ancient tombs in the region. Next, visit the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, musical relics used to regulate time and activity during imperial China. Complete the excursion with a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda, its tiered layers making it a beautiful example of traditional Chinese architecture.

Among the most fascinating exhibits is the fossilised “Lantain Man”, a Homo erectus who lived between 530,000 and one million years ago. Travel on to the Xi’an City Wall next and climb to the top of the ancient structure, admiring its many watchtowers, parapet walls and drawbridges. Travel next to the vibrant Muslim Quarter of Xi’an, and experience narrow cobblestoned streets, cluttered with a mishmash of market stalls and food vendors. Sample the local cuisine before heading off to visit the Great Mosque. Constructed in 742 and still in use today, The Mosque’s intricate decoration and historical significance make it a very special place. Complete the excursion with a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda, its tiered layers making it a beautiful example of traditional Chinese architecture.

DUMPLING (JIAOZI) DINNER

Jiaozi are a type of dumpling and one of the most popular dishes in China. Spend an evening at Defachang Restaurant learning how to make Jiaozi then enjoy a banquet prepared by the chef. A glass of soft drink is also included.

TANG DYNASTY DINNER AND SHOW
